    Gum Disease

Gum disease is caused by inflammation of the gums and other tissues supporting the teeth (jaw bones and fibers that allow the teeth to attach to the jaw bone). This disease, which begins with inflammation of the gums, also known as gingivitis, progresses to other tissues and if left untreated, jaw bones melt away and urn intto periodontitis.

Gingival disease is difficult to notice because it does not cause pain. The most important symptom is bleeding while brushing. Other symptoms include halitosis, bad taste, red, swelling or receding gums, displaced tooth, loose teeth and abscess formation. Gum disease does not only result in tooth loss when left untreated, but also has an effect on the development of some systemic diseases and exacerbates existing diseases. Heart diseases, arteriosclerosis, diabetes, stroke, premature birth and low birth weight infant birth are among those conditions.

The primary cause of gum disease is the harmful microbes formed on the teeth as a result of improper oral hygiene.

In the treatment of gum diseases, different procedures are performed depending on the condition of the case. Gingival health is regained by denture cleaning and various surgical operations and laser applications. Lost tissues may be regenerated with bone grafts and materials.
